I recently picked up a few new beauty bits I thought deserved some love here on the ol’ blog. Three items from brands I have never tried before and one item from a brand that’s been a beloved favourite for years…
I had been on the hunt for a micro-bead free body scrub for months and couldn’t for the life of me find one I really liked. By chance, I came across this all-natural brand, Herbivore Botanicals via a Sephora email (the sleek, minimal branding lured me in, lets be honest) and saw they had a scrub with rave reviews, so I decided to give it a go. The main ingredients are coconut oil, rose oil and sugar. The rose oil does give it give it quite a strong fragrance (which smells divine in my opinion), so if fragranced products aren’t your thing, then you’ll probably want to give this a miss. I must say that I went in with low expectations, but I’ve really been liking this a lot! It has left my dry wintery skin feeling a lot softer, exfoliated and moisturised. Plus, 100% all natural ingredients = a definite win.
I also picked up this mask from Herbivore as the “Instant Glow” aspect of it was intriguing. Again, another 100% natural product, citing tourmaline gemstone, pineapple enzymes, rice powder and aloe leaf as the main ingredients. The first thing I noticed with this mask is that you do get instant gratification with it, my skin looked illuminated and smooth pretty much immediately, which I thought was quite impressive. As the mask is quite liquidy, I apply a thin layer and a little does go a long way. I would definitely recommend using the little spatula you get with it to mix the product around before using as the “tourmaline gemstone” does tend to settle at the bottom of the jar and that is the main ingredient that gives you the “instant glow”! All in all, I have been impressed with my Herbivore purchases so far. I am thinking to try their Blue Tansy mask next.
I picked this up in the recent “40% off skincare” sale at Priceline. As a massive lover of serums, I had heard good things about this one and was also keen to check out The Ordinary as a brand after all the hype they’ve had. The “Buffet” targets fine lines and wrinkles, expression lines, textural irregularities and surface hydration. I have been using it in the AM after cleansing and have noticed a visible difference with the fine lines around my eye area. It has a nice light moisturizing peptide formula (alllll about the peptides now that I’ve hit my mid 30s) and also seems to help keep my makeup in place. What a cool little product for 25 bucks.
Last on my list is a product from a brand I have been loyal to for years. I tend to ignore celeb makeup collabs, but after Lucy from Fashion Me Now raved about this on InstaStories, I knew I had to try it (plus it doesn’t hurt that Charlotte Gainsbourg is a total babe). I love the NARS multiples and already have 2 (Orgasm and Copacabana), but this one is fast becoming my favourite. “Alice” is a bright poppy red and quite strongly pigmented compared to the other 2 in the collection. I apply a teeny tiny bit on my cheeks for that perfect amount of flush. It’s works really well as a tint on the lips as well. Overall, a lovely formula that feels really light and fresh on.
