I have always liked the idea of setting a few goals at the start of a brand new year, but admittedly have never once in my 33 years of existence followed through with them and lets be real – come February, have usually forgotten most of them. Sad, but true.
This year I decided to try it out yet again and in fear of once again not making any progress, I wrote a list of all the things I wanted to accomplish in 2016, both big and small. Since we are midway through the year, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on what I have managed to achieve so far and what still needs to be done…

Meet with a financial planner
Status: In progress
Slight amend to this one, I met with a mortgage broker back in April who assessed my finances and informed me that the amount I am paying towards rent every month (to someone else!), could be going towards a property of my own instead. I am probably late to the party on this one, but that struck a chord with me. Since then, I have been putting the feelers out into the oh-so-dreaded Sydney property market to get an idea of what’s possible for a first time buyer. It’s been stressful AF, but let me tell ya, I have learned a shitload of things I had NO idea about previously, so that’s a start. Adulting is a scary thing, folks. There is no denying that.
Get my Australian citizenship

After getting my Australian permanent residency in 2011, I vowed to never look at another visa document again. It was a long, hard and expensive process. Well after a 5 year break from anything visa related, I decided I was finally ready to dive back into a sea of documents and apply for citizenship – aka, get my hands on that nice, shiny Aussie passport. My application has been approved and I write the sit-down test this month. If all goes to plan, I should have it by year end. One thing I have learned in this process is to be FAR more meticulous about keeping important documentation together! (damn that misplaced birth certificate…)
Walk home from work a few times a week
Status: Not happening
I live 6km away from where I work so I figured a good, brisk walk home a couple of evenings a week could help clear the mind and improve energy levels after a long day at work. Well, I am ashamed to admit that this fizzled out after doing it a grand total of twice. Now that it’s winter, i.e. cold and dark by the time I leave, the motivation is even more difficult. I may need to revisit this and come up with an alternative. Brave peak hour Sydney traffic and cycle instead? I will not even get into how neglected my bicycle is…
Sell clothes on eBay and/or donate
Status: Half way there
I’m pretty good at doing consistent wardrobe culls, as having too much stuff stresses me out. I have donated bags and bags of unwanted stuff to charity shops over the past 6 months, but I do still have some higher end items that I am keen on selling as opposed to giving away. Specifically, a never-been-worn pair of Chloe wedges and a pair of Acne boots that are a touch too big. They have been sitting in my wardrobe for nearly 2 years. Why? I have no idea! Someone else could be enjoying them and that could be money in my wallet right there. Definitely still on the to do list.
So yeah, those were my main goals and this is where I’m currently at. Seeing it typed out into 4 paragraphs somehow makes it feel a little less overwhelming. I guess I will report back in another 6 months to compare notes with what I have here!
