I thought I would make a list of a few of the things I am loving right now, from books to beauty bits, a little bit of a mixed bag below…
Bite Beauty lipsticks are such a dream to wear. They are hydrating, comfortable, 100% natural and have serious staying power. What more do you want? I found myself in Sephora swatching a few different colours from the Amuse Bouche range (which is amazing by the way) and came across the super punchy and vibrant colour, Persimmon. Needless to say, as a massive bold lip enthusiast, I fell in love and bought it on the spot. Holy moly, this colour is beautiful — it’s a super pigmented, medium red-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. Pretty much the only colour I have been reaching for since I got it.
I have always been a fan of Anuschka’s blog and her strategic approach to personal style, so her book has been on my to-read list ever since it was published last year. My favourite thing about this book was the fact that she teaches you how to define your own clothing rules. She does not provide lists or pictures of what works together — that’s up to you. There are no cookie-cutter formulas here, it’s purely about what works for YOU. She provides various exercises that you can do in your own time to help define your style and then bring it all to fruition. Having a well-developed sense of your own style is key to being a better shopper, there’s so much you can just immediately bypass when you’re shopping with intention.
I used to be a strictly studs girl, but have quickly fallen hard for the vast array of statement earrings around right now and have picked up quite a few different pairs. My current faves are this pair from Anthro which I have been wearing a ton — they are super light, making them really comfortable to wear. My daily uniform consist of jeans and a top of some sort, so these definitely add a lil somethin’ somethin’ to an otherwise basic outfit. I have also had my eye on these Young Frankk Tassel earrings and think I might bite the bullet and get a pair, how pretty are they?!
When I was a kid, my mom used to have an essential oil burner exactly like this and I always remember helping her choose all sorts of different oils to burn, our favourites were always rosemary and lavender. So when I was browsing in Muji and saw a huge display of these, I decided I had to get one. It’s amazing how a fragrance can trigger such powerful memories and burning the rosemary oil took me right back to my childhood in Cape Town. I’m looking forward to picking up some more oils and working them into my everyday life. Here is a great guide outlining the basics of them if you’re interested.
Alexa Chung on the cover of the latest British Vogue
Last, but not least, is the lady herself, Alexa on the cover of the June British Vogue. I’m not usually one to buy overpriced imported fashion mags (design mags on the other hand…*ahem*), but felt like I had to make an exception with this one, just to check out the multi-page editorial on her new line. She is hands down my number one style icon, hence why I am giddy with excitement over the fact that she will be releasing her own line of clothing on May 31st. GAH. The capsule collection she did for M&S was to die for, so I can only imagine what her own line would be like. Time will tell, peeps, I can’t wait to see.
